2023 Golf Canada Junior Girls Championship Coming to Hampton Golf Club

The 2023 Golf Canada Junior Girls Championship presented by BDO is coming to the Hampton Golf Club from July 23-27, 2023. With over 60 years of history, the Canadian Junior Girls Championship continues to produce top calibre players who contend years later for amateur and professional titles. Top Canadian golfers like Sandra Post, Marilyn Palmer (O’Connor) Gayle Hitchins (Borthwick) Alena Sharp, Maude-Aimée LeBlanc, Rebecca Lee-Bentham, and Brooke Henderson all saw early success at this coveted championship.

Last held at Hampton in 2009, members still remember watching a young Brooke Henderson making a name for herself, competing against older juniors at such a young age. “Our membership is ready to welcome the best in Canada to this event” said Director of Golf Jon Garron. “We have volunteers ready to go, our grounds crew has the course looking great and we look forward to presenting a fair test of golf over 4 days,” said Garron.

Hampton Golf Club is no stranger to hosting events, having hosted major events like the 2009 Junior Girls Championship and the 2022 Golf Canada NextGen Fall Series East Championship, fuelled by JOURNIE Rewards. With four sets of tees on the undulating 6,500-yard golf course, which will play to a par of 71, the course will provide an excellent and exciting challenge for participants. “Hampton stepped up to host the NextGen event last year on short notice and provided a seamless event,” said Golf Tournament Director Dan Hyatt. “We know that club members are excited and hope to see members of the public come out and see the next generation of great Canadian golfers compete at such a strong venue like Hampton Golf Club.”

“Sports tourism is an important economic driver for our region,” says Jillian MacKinnon, VP, Marketing Communications & Strategic Initiatives of Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency. “Events like the 2023 Golf Canada Junior Girls Championship not only generate excitement for sports fans, they also bring new money into the local economy filling hotels, restaurants and retailers. Local champions like Jon Garron and his team are helping to showcase our region on a national stage and we are pleased to see this tournament being hosted at the Hampton Golf Club.”

The public is welcome to watch the competition live from July 24-27 at the course. Admission is by donation, with proceeds going to the tournament legacy scholarship. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Please contact Jon Garron for more information [email protected]
