SAINT JOHN: Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency announced a new bursary to support medical education for students enrolled at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DalMedNB) today during the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce’s event: Current State of Health Care and Looking Ahead.

“Attracting physicians is a big piece of the puzzle, but it’s through retention that we will truly achieve success,” said Andrew Beckett, Interim CEO at Envision Saint John. “During our outreach and connections with medical students throughout the past two years, it has been apparent that physicians are more likely to stay and build a practice in a community that they have a connection to.”

Two bursaries are available – each valued at $2,500 and renewable for four years, totaling $20,000 in financial assistance.

Recipients must sign a one-year pledge to practice in the Saint John Region following graduation, and preference will be given to applicants that have declared an interest in Family Medicine.

A new physician recruitment video was also launched at the Chamber event and will be shared with partners for their recruitment efforts. Focusing on the Saint John Region’s specific value proposition – the video showcases how the region is home to a hub for digital health and technological advancements, with our progressive health cluster and unmatched quality of life.

The bursary program and recruitment video were established as a supplement to Envision Saint John’s ongoing efforts to attract and retain physicians in the region. The program has been financed in part by a grant from the New Brunswick Department of Health.
