From Surrey to Saint John…the Health & Technology District Saint John is the next big thing!
Using the highly successful Health & Technology District in Surrey, BC as its model, the Saint John region is poised to become a leading hub for digital health and technological advancements.
The Health and Technology District Saint John will be a place where innovators and entrepreneurs – students and faculty – work alongside scientists, clinicians, and health care practitioners to develop new technologies and improve health outcomes, patient experiences, and the economics of health care delivery in the region and beyond.
Located in Tucker Park on the UNB Saint John Campus, the Health and Technology District will bring significant synergies and expand the existing cluster – where New Brunswick’s largest acute care hospital, Dalhousie Medical School and NBCC’s Allied Health program work in collaboration to support a stronger, healthier, and more innovative New Brunswick. It will take Tucker Park to another level.
“Any city across Canada would love this opportunity that we have,” said Paulette Hicks, CEO of Envision Saint John: The Regional Growth Agency. “We’ve been selected because we have this natural cluster of partners collaborating, but also the infrastructure that really suites this next investment as an innovative district for our region.”
This private sector investment will bring industry and entrepreneurial companies together to operate within the Health & Technology District Saint John creating jobs for UNB graduates.
“There will be tremendous synergies between the Health & Technology District Saint John and the interdisciplinary health program – providing our students with opportunities to connect early on with the leaders in the health sector, and in turn create a talent pipeline ready to take on the challenges in health of today, and of tomorrow,” explained Dr. Petra Hauf, Vice-President Saint John, University of New Brunswick.
The Health & Technology District will be a catalyst for turning research into solutions that will have a positive impact on New Brunswickers.
“The potential is incredible to attract technology companies, researchers, and innovators in the health field here to Saint John,” said Dr. Paul Atkinson, Clinical Academic Department Head, Department of Emergency Medicine, Horizon Health Network and Assistant Dean of Research, Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick.
“I think with this initiative, we really will have a package that will bring the best to the Saint John region.”
